Happy Easter weekend! Yesterday we were near Ottawa at a sugar shack with Ghis’s sisters and father (Happy Birthday André!). Today we had a quiet day at home – shoveling the snow around in the yard to make it melt faster, chipping the fence out of the ice so we can open it and scooping the poop that was hiding under all that snow.
Morgane has changed again. She is extremely independent and inisists on doing everything we do. She wants to do all these things by herself: grate cheese, pour the milk, cut her food, crack eggs open, take showers, eat with chopsticks and mop the floor. She is also able to express herself well now in English and French, with her French much stronger now. She was very nice with everyone this weekend, giving everyone hugs and calling them by name and saying ‘merci.’
We are starting to think about landscaping and all the choices to make and work to do in the backyard. Ghis has already drawn a handy-dandy map on the computer. I am more relaxed at school now that oral presentations have started and I don’t have more planning to do. I can almost see the end already. My latest ambition is to ride my bike to work for the rest of the school year. It looks like the bike paths won’t be open till April 15th, but we are going to try to sell the van, which should save us a bit of money.
As for going back to school, I have applied to Vermont College which has a correspondance program: a master’s in writing for children and young adults. Unfortunately, they can’t give VISA’s to foreign students right now, but have agreed to review my application anyway in case this changes before too long.
Morgane’s amazing story of the week is that while we were driving to Ottawa, we gave her a straw to play with. “Mommy,” she called, and when I looked she had made an ‘N’ shape with the straw. “N,” she said. She can read me all the letters that make up the title of her favourite book, “Corduroy” and she knows a lot more, too. Her favourite books these days are the Doctor Suess books: Go Dogs Go! Are You My Mother? One Fish Two Fish…
