We are in Delaware. We didn’t plan on sleeping here, but that’s where we were when it started to get dark. We’ll probably sleep in the Wal Mart parking lot, but for now we are at a pleasant ferry terminal – you can take the ferry to New Jersey if you want to go to Atlantic City via Cape May. Free internet and bathrooms, so I don’t mind hanging out. Also, we found an excellent organic foods store just as we were coming into town.

It’s weird to be back in the van, but I am excited to wake up and explore Assateague Island. They’re calling for better weather. “Hello, can I speak with better weather?”

It was hard to say bye to Keith and Mariamalia, but we know we’ll see them again. Carmanah, especially, didn’t want to leave. We kept bringing her down to the van and she kept sprinting back up to the house, hoping to jump onto the super-comfy dog cushion.

And we survived Halloween. We all enjoyed the Halloween parties and Morgane had a great sleepover with her new friend. Thanks, Stephanie! We trick-or-treated with all the kids in the neighbourhood, it seemed. Very fun!

  1. Finally, someone I know, who has been on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge! Whenever I have tried to describe it to people, they just stare at me blankly. Isn’t it amazing and unique?

  2. The two Chesapeake Bay Bridges form a “swimming lane” between them and every year on the second Sunday in June, there is a 4.4-mile swim that starts on the western side and exits on the eastern shore. On that day since 1992, approximately 650 competitors, about 40 kayakers and the same number of boaters all get organized and make it across. This next year will make it my 19th swim across.

I hope you enjoy your trip.
