The Fortress of Louisbourg

Saturday we had a great day exploring the fortress of Louisbourg. It’s the largest recreation in North America (they claim) and it’s meant to show life in the mid 1700s. We even got to eat traditional food (no potatoes – France didn’t accept them as food until later) at the on-site restaurant. It was very beautiful (LOTS of pictures) and educational for Morgane, too (although sometimes she wanted to go back to the van and play with her toys).

All hear, it is time to punish the prisoner.

There were various people decked out in costumes and Morgane was a bit shy with them. I got to try out the harpsichord, but she was too scared. Throughout the day there were various military demonstrations (flute playing, gun shooting, cannons) and in the afternoon they marched a prisoner down for a public punishment (two hours in the stocks).

Here come the geese.

Morgane was impressed by and a bit worried about the cannons. Here, she is proud to pose for a picture with one.
