We made some more new friends on Ocracoke Island. It all began at the cafe in the morning. Troy started admiring our dog and then he and Ghis started talking and found we had lots in common.

Then they offered us a hot shower and I couldn’t refuse. They left to go kayaking and we went to the beach. We promised to meet up for lunch later.
After the beach, we tried the outdoor shower. It was a) excellent b) awesome c) amazing d) addictive e) all of the above! Outdoor showers have hot water and are little private stalls but you can see the sky above. Best of all, you don’t have to worry about tracking sand in the house. We have decided that we will definitely install one at our future house.
We caught the 5 o’clock ferry off the island and 2.5 hours later, we were on Cedar Island. A couple of hours driving and we arrived at the Wal Mart in New Bern.
I was a bit scared at first. The parking lot was pretty busy, with rowdy teenagers hanging out in some parts. When I saw that the Wal Mart stayed open 24 hours a day, I wondered if we’d get any sleep. In the end, I slept quite well. Maybe I am adapting or maybe Morgane has stopped wiggling.

Just registered so I can follow your trip. Photos are great. May have some suggestions for you as you get closer to AZ, CA, Baja and BC.
