This morning we said goodbye to our new friends! We’ll see them again in Raleigh which is near our next woofing destination (wwoof.org).

After saying hello to the beach, we took the free 40-minute ferry to Ocracoke Island. We have trouble saying the name! It doesn’t roll off the tongue.

It is, however, a GREAT island. Apparently it was once rate the best beach in the United States. The island is 16 miles long and not very wide. The entire seashore is park, so there are no houses at all on the island except in the village.

We parked by a cafe and while Ghis napped, Morgane and I went exploring. We found an ice cream shop that seemed to be in the process of closing. We asked what flavours were left and chose chocolate. He took the entire tub out and asked us how much we wanted and whether we wanted to just eat it out of the tub. We said, “OKAY!” Then he gave us some free fudge, too, just because.

On top of that, a great couple we met who have the same good taste (they have the same van as us) wrote to us. They said that they have a solar panel that came with their van that they never use and they could send it to us. We are pretty excited!

Tonight we splurged on Thai take-out and it looks like we have enough for a few meals. We are parked outside a great cafe, so in the morning, we can hang out in their comfy chairs. Right now we have internet and they don’t mind us parking here overnight.

It feels like we are getting in the groove of this trip or maybe it’s just the good weather. The only downside of it is that we are getting bitten by mosquitoes in November!
